Collective efforts for best civic amenities during CWG: NDMC
NEW DELHI: Noting that areas under NDMC’s jurisdiction will be under focus during the Commonwealth Games, its chairmanParimal Rai on Sunday said collective efforts have to be made to provide best civic amenities to the visitors.
“New Delhi is one of the prime areas of our country and specially during the Commonwealth Games, NDMC areas will be on focus. We have to make collective efforts in providing best civic amenities to the participants and tourists during the Games,” he said at the NDMC’s Independence Day function here.
The New Delhi Municipal Council is implementing several projects related to the Games and concerns have been expressed from several quarters over the pace of some of them, especially the ambitious Connaught Place renovation.
With most blocks of CP still dug-up, a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had on Saturday directed the authorities to finish works in the “visible areas” on a priority basis in the heritage market.
On the occasion, Rai also inaugurated the ceremonial band of Fire Department, NDMC. The security and fire personnel also demonstrated unarmed combat skills which have been imparted to prepare them as the first line of defence in case of any eventuality.
