ARIYALUR: The underground drainage project for Ariyalur Municipality
will be completed in 18 months, according to the Collector T.K.
Ponnuswamy. The project involving laying of underground pipes to a
distance of 37.9 kilometres and creation of 1,343 manholes at a cost of
Rs. 27.5 crore will be carried with a futuristic perspective. As against
the municipality’s current discharge of 3.37 million litres of sewage
water, a provision for discharge of up to 4.48 million litres would be
made under the project, the Collector said.
Mr. Ponnuswamy inspected the progress of works at K.K. Nagar and
Netaji Nagar areas. He determined the use of pipes and cement for the
project as per the government specifications, and also checked the
sturdiness of the concrete at joints of pipes.
The Collector instructed officials to carry out the task without causing public inconvenience.
