Cong nominees win Sanchi, Churhat local bodies’ polls
The bad phase of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the local
bodies election continued as the ruling party in Madhya Pradesh lost
Churhat Nagar Panchayat of Sidhi district and Sanchi Nagar Panchayat of
Raisen district. The results were declared on Monday.
State Congress president and MP Kantilal Bhuria and leader of
opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh expressed happiness over the
party’s victory and congratulated the victorious candidates.
Bhuria and Singh also took the opportunity to express gratitude towards
the electorate of Churhat and Sanchi for making Congress victorious.
Congress candidate Poornima Patel defeated Urmila Pandey of BJP by 483
votes to register victory as Chairperson of Churhat Nagar Panchayat
while the Congress candidates registered victory in 9 of the total 15
wards, BJP candidates could register victory in only three wards.
While, in the Sanchi Nagar Panchayat’s chairman election Congress’
candidate Sushila Ahirwar defeated BJP candidate Anjulata Mehra by a
thin margin of 86 votes.
The results of the wards elections were awaited till the filing of this
report. Bhuria in a statement said that earlier this year the elections
for 8 municipalities and Nagar Panchayats were held and the ruling
party openly used Government machinery and spent huge money to lure the
electorate but the Congress registered victory on seven of the eight
local bodies that went to poll.
Now, the result of Churhat and Sanchi clearly indicates that the mass
base of the ruling BJP is losing fast and the countdown for BJP has
begun, he added.
Singh in his statement said that the results make it clear that the
people of the State have fed up with the misgovernance of the BJP in the
State. The polling in favour of Congress candidates shows that the
faith of people of the State, has increased on Congress and they wish to
get rid of the BJP Government, he added.
