Corporation begins work on widening KSRTC junction
The Thrissur Corporation on Wednesday initiated steps to widen the KSRTC corner in the city.
The demolition of buildings and structures got under way in the afternoon.
The
final decision to remove the structures was taken at a meeting held
between Mayor I. P Paul and KSRTC managing director K.G. Mohanlal in
Thiruvananthapuram.
Though the PWD had made arrangements to finish the work before Thrissur Pooram, work got delayed due to some technical reasons.
The
corporation plans to widen the road and to beautify the footpaths by
laying pavement tiles. The widening of the KSRTC junction is expected to
solve the severe traffic congestion in the area to a considerable
extent.
City bus service
The
city bus service is on the verge of turning into a reality. A circular
bus service, connecting four bus stands, railway station and various
junctions, conducted a trial run in the city. With just Rs. 6, one can
take a tour of the entire city.
The service conducted by the KSRTC is expected to begin operations before Thrissur Pooram.
During
the trial run, the bus took two minutes from Sakthan Stand to North
Stand. Three buses of the KSRTC will conduct services in the first
phase. The KSRTC plans 36 trips with an interval of 10 minutes.
