Corporation clears encroachments
Structures, shops obstructing traffic flow and those on footpaths removed

In a bid to ease traffic congestion, the Vellore
Corporation on Tuesday removed encroachments from Mandy Street, Old Bus
Stand area and New Sitting Bazaar. The areas are heavily congested and
mostly heavily crowded.
Official said they cleared
the encroachments following directions from the Collector and
Superintendent of Police during the traffic regulation meeting.
Temporary structures
“As
these were temporary encroachments, we made announcements through
tom-tom recently. But the shopkeepers did not pay heed to our
instructions , and so we launched the eviction drive,” an officer of the
Vellore Corporation said.
Temporary structures put
up by vendors, stands and shops on cycles were removed during the drive
that was conducted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “These shops were obstructing
traffic flow. To enable smooth flow of traffic, we had to remove them,”
he added. Encroachments on the footpaths were also cleared during the
drive.
