Corporation e-governance project: bids to be opened today
The technical bids for the e-governance programme of the Kochi Corporation will be opened on Wednesday.
Though the civic body was allotted funds from the
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission for the programme some
time back, it could not utilise it effectively. The programme aims at
completely computerising the functioning of the Kochi Corporation. Of
the Rs. 11 crore-project, Rs. 9.5 crore would come as central assistance
for the civic body. Kochi was one among the 35 cities selected for the
implementation of the project.
Wipro had prepared the detailed project report for the
e-governance programme and the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development
Project had tendered it.
The computerisation of Kochi Corporation, which was
initiated nearly a decade ago, has reached nowhere. Barring the
acquisition of a few computers, the project could not make any headway.
Initially, the civic body had entrusted the work with the Public Sector
company Keltron. Later, the authorities brought in Information Kerala
Mission for the project.
Once the e-governance project is implemented, a major
share of the activities of the Corporation including the issuance of
licences, certificates, building permits, and tracking of files would be
possible online. Presently, the issuance of birth and death
certificates is only computerised in the civic body.
The e-programme is also expected to bring in
transparency in the functioning of the civic body as people can monitor
its activities. This would go a long way in ensuring efficient service
to the public, authorities said.
