Corporation passes spl resolution thanking CM for ban on SL players

Chennai corporation on Friday passed a special resolution thanking
chief minister J. Jayalalithaa for banning Sri Lankan cricket players in
Chennai during this IPL season and also for cancelling the Asian
Athletics meet in the capital city.
Reading out the special
resolution, mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy emphasised that whenever the
Tamils had a problem, it was the AIADMK supremo who took up measures to
address and respect Tamil sentiments.
Even
recently, the TN Assembly passed a resolution asking the Centre to get
the UN to start the process of carving out Eelam for Lankan Tamils. So
far, about 700 TN fishermen have been shot dead and the Centre has done
nothing on the issue. It was CM Jayalalithaa who condemned the acts, the
mayor read.
He also pointed out that the CM was keen on
retrieving Katchateevu from Lanka and said the state government was
working towards a solution to address the power crisis.
The
special resolution also thanked the chief minister for providing
drinking water through the Veeranam project and supporting the civic
body in running 200 Amma canteens across the city.
Pointing
to the AIADMK’s stand on imposing economic embargo against Lanka,
Duraisamy took a dig at those encouraging Lankan cricket players and
said for them, the objective was to promote ‘commercial cricket’.
