Corporation proposes to upgrade schools
The Coimbatore Corporation will soon send a proposal to
the State Government seeking its permission to upgrade the middle school
at Krishnapuram in Singanallur to a high school.
It
has also sought the Government’s permission to upgrade the
Maniakarampalayam High School to higher secondary school, Sanganoor,
SIHS Colony and Ganapathy Ramakrishnapuram middle schools to high school
and the Ganapathy and Weavers’ Colony primary schools to middle
schools.
Resolution
The civic body had the Corporation Council pass the resolution at the Thursday’s Council meeting.
As
for the Krishnapuram Middle School, Councillor ‘Singai’ Balan had
sought the upgrade stating that in the absence of a high school in the
area, the students of the Corporation’s middle school were forced to
seek admission in private schools in the area.
At present the school had 345 students.
Classrooms
Mr.
Balan had also stated that the school was ready for upgrade as the
additional classrooms required for students of Classes VI to X were
ready. He also sought payment of the upgrade fee – Rs. 1 lakh – from the
Corporation’s education fund.
Fund
The Council said that for the upgrade of the other schools too, the civic body could pay the Government from its education fund.
