Corporation schools perform well
Schools managed by the Coimbatore Corporation registered a pass percentage of 90 this year.
According
to a press release from the civic body, of the 790 boys who had
appeared for the examination, 659 cleared it. And of the 1,642 girls who
appeared, 1,520 cleared it. The boys’ pass percentage was 83 and the
girls’ 93.
Among the Corporation school students, R.
Indumathi of Oppanakkara Street Girls’ Higher Secondary School secured
the first rank scoring 1,161 out of 1,200. K. Mohanammal was the second
top-scorer with 1,155. S. Surya and S. Venaktesh shared the third spot
with 1,148.
Mayor S.M. Velusamy in the presence of
Commissioner G. Latha and Deputy Commissioner S. Sivarasu honoured the
students with shawl and cash award.
The press release
said that the Mayor promised education assistance for students who had
secured the top 20 ranks in each of the 16 higher secondary schools.
With
98.07, the Udayampalayam Corporation Higher Secondary School recorded
the highest pass percentage among the Corporation schools.
Corporation Education department officials said that the top mark — 1,161 — was 12 marks higher than last year.
Further,
the Corporation school students had scored centums in 19 subjects — 13
in accountancy, five in commerce and one in Business Mathematics. A
total of 151 students had secured marks above 1,000. The civic body will
be giving Rs. 1,000 to all these students as an award.
