Corporation seals four shops
Coimbatore Corporation on Thursday sealed four shops on
Raja Street after the owners were repeatedly found using plastic bags
with thickness less than 40 microns. According to sources, the
Corporation officials in the raids conducted more than a month ago had
seized nearly 500 kg plastic bags from shops on Raja Street.
Following
the seizure, the officials conducted a meeting with the traders to ask
them to not use plastic bags with thickness less than 40 microns. Though
the traders agreed to abide by the rules, they continued to use the
banned bags as the Corporation found during a subsequent raid, which was
conducted 15 days ago.
Following the second raid,
the Corporation decided to act tough against the shops. Thursday’s
action to seal the shops was fallout of the decision, the sources said.
