Corporation to buy road cleaning machines
Coimbatore Corporation is in the process of buying road
cleaning machines to remove dust gathered along medians and roadsides.
The Mayor said that the Corporation would go in for machines
manufactured in Coimbatore as they would be cheaper and it need not
worry about maintenance.
His decision was influenced
by the civic body buying a machine a few years ago and suffering heavy
expenditure on diesel and maintenance. Finally, the Corporation had to
dump the machine.
The Mayor’s decision to buy the
machines came after ward 56 councillor Lakshmi Ilanselvi raised the
issue in the council meeting recently.
She said she had seen a couple of motorcycle riders meet with accidents after dust from medians hit their faces.
This was on Masakalipalayam Road. But it was also true of Trichy Road, Avinashi Road and all other roads in the city.
North
Zone Chairman P. Rajkumar said that the machine the Corporation bought a
few years ago was on the eve of the World Classical Tamil Conference.
