Corporation to develop six parks with Rs. 100-cr. grant
It has reserved Rs. 20 lakh for each of these parks
The Government-approved action plan of the Mangalore City Corporation
for utilising the second instalment of Rs. 100 crore special grant
sanctioned to it for three years (2011-14) has proposed to develop six
parks in the city.
The locations are Karnataka Housing Board colony at
Bondel, Nethravathi Nagara near Naguri, Abbakka Nagara near Kottara,
Shivarama Karanth Nagara in Bajal area and Karnad Sadashiva Rao Nagara
under Kankanady ward. The civic body has reserved Rs. 20 lakh for each
of these parks. In addition, it has proposed to develop a park near
Gujjarakere at Jeppu Market at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.60 crore.
The plan has allocated Rs. 2 crore for constructing a
bus terminal near Pumpwell and Rs. 3 crore for traffic management in the
city.
Corporation Commissioner K.N. Vijayaprakash told The Hindu that
the traffic management covered installing vehicle-actuated signal
control system integrated with surveillance enforcement cameras.
The plan has allocated Rs. 2 crore for conducting a
survey to take up Mangala Corniche Project, which aims at constructing
an outer ring road in the city. It is proposed to develop three
graveyards at Nandigudda (Rs. 45 lakh), Shakthi Nagara (Rs. 35 lakh) and
Surathkal (Rs. 20 lakh). It has reserved Rs. 1.40 crore for developing a
market at Bejai.
Funds have been allocated for laying the pavements and for constructing drains on five main concrete road stretches in the city.
They are from Lalbagh Junction to Circuit House,
Hampankatta Junction to PVS Circle, Subhash Nagara Junction to
Mangaladevi Temple on Pandeshwar-Mangaladevi Temple Road, Bunts Hostel
Junction to Mallikatta, and on Kadri Kambala Road.
It has reserved funds for constructing underground
drainage (sewage lines) at five places. They are at Attavara (area
behind Kasturba Medical College Hospital), Dhoomappa Compound at
Pandeshwar, Parapu in Boloor, Sunkadakatte at Ashoknagar and labourers’
colony at Pachchanady.
The action plan has listed five road stretches on which
storm-water drains will be built. They are from A.B. Shetty Circle to
Subhash Nagara Junction, KSRTC Junction to Kuntikana Junction, Rao and
Rao Circle to Clock Tower (Hampankatta), Shivabagh Junction (Kadri) to
Lower Bendoor Circle (near St. Agnes College), Central Railway Station
to Nandigudda Circle (Attavara Road).
It has reserved Rs. 3 crore for developing storm-water
drains at Jeppinamogaru, Hoige Bazar and Kuloor. The action plan has
reserved Rs. 30 lakh to conduct a survey of all storm-water drains in
the city and prepare a technical report for their development.
It has allocated funds for installing streetlights on medians of seven road stretches.
They are from Kuntikana Junction to Karnataka Bank;
Avery Junction to Hampankatta Junction, Lower Bendoor to Shivabagh
Junction, Bunts Hostel to Shivabagh Junction, Karavali Circle to
Kankanady Circle, Mary Hill Junction to Bondel Junction and Bondel
Junction to Marakada Junction.
