project on D.B. Road and T.V. Swamy Street will engage the public for
suggestions on February 18 and 19.
According to sources, the
Corporation will place giant images of how the roads will look after the
project is implemented and seek suggestions from the public from 11
a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Corporation Kalaiarangam.
The Corporation is
implementing the model road project at Rs. 5.50 crore to develop 1.6 km
of D.B. Road and 1.1 km of T.V. Swamy Street so that they have uniform
motor carriage way, pedestrian-friendly pavements and ducts for cables.
On
February 18, senior bureaucrats will brief the public on how the
Corporation proposed to implement the project and the salient features
of the model road. Thereafter, they will throw open the floor for
suggestions from the public.
Representatives
of the Corporation and the partner agencies – RAAC and ITDP – will note
down the suggestions to incorporate them in the model road plan, the
sources say and add that no major changes such as shifting bus shelters
or stops can be considered, though.
The Corporation had recently
held a joint inspection with TANGEDCO for taking underground the power
cables and with telecom service providers for taking underground their
cables.
Once the Corporation implemented the
model road project, vehicle parking will be better regulated on the
roads. Consequently, the number of vehicles parked on the road will come
down. To address this problem, the Corporation is looking at
alternative parking spaces in the vicinity. The sources say that the
civic body is also in talks with restaurants and big commercial
establishments on the two roads to make them look for alternative
parking spaces.
The Corporation is implementing the model road
project on Sanganoor Road, NSR Road, in Race Course and Masakalipalayam
Road as well.
