Corporators demand probe into door number allocation system
Special Correspondent
GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation on Monday discussed at length the door numbering system in the city, which was kicked off more than a year ago and remains to be completed.
The majority of the corporators demanded a thorough probe into the system and wanted a system that was acceptable to everyone. Mayor Rayapati Mohan Saikrishna finally declared that only 80 to 90 per cent of the work was completed and a meeting would held in the wards involving the locals and corporators from the region to evolve a proper system so that the entire city would be covered.
About Rs.45 lakhs was spent, but not all houses were covered and there was some confusion over the way it was being numbered without taking into consideration ward numbers.
There was a heated debate over the notices issued to 5,700 persons for discontinuing pensions as they had not drawn for three months. Majority of corporators wanted the date for responding to notices and submission of reply should be extended up to May 10.
Recovery of Rs.43.83 lakhs has been initiated against 200 persons under Revenue Recovery Act, the council was informed and about 9,000 notices were issued to alleged illegal beneficiaries in Indiramma housing. Another 2,000 pensions were also under scanner for their genuineness. The council discussed Action Taken Report on the questions discussed on January 20 council meeting.
Other major issues that came up for heated debate were funds being invested by the VGMTUDA in the developmental activity in the city and also the proposed RoBs or RuB at several places on the roads that connect city to outside world.
