The municipality on Wednesday encountered an embarrassing situation when a former community organiser was locked in a room by a councillor and kept in confinement for nearly two hours. He was released after other staffs of the municipality intervened.
Sources said community organiser Dillip Pani was transferred from here to Bhadrak since three years. While he had allegedly committed several irregularities in forming SHGs and providing them benefit under Government schemes during his tenure, apprehending he may be tampering with the documents, councillor Susanta Sahu supported by few others known to be of rivals of municipality chairperson, locked the room in which Sahu was working.
However, sources at the municipality maintained that he had come to complete some pending jobs which he hadn’t completed during handing over the charge. It was alleged that Pani was involved in several irregularities and a case has been registered against him along with others in a scam of nearly `12 lakh for misappropriation of Government funds.
