Councillors raise concern over money spent by civic bodyFrom deployment of security guards at parks to quality of tertiary treated water and money spent by Municipal Corporation on Tourism Week, the meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation saw various issues being raised.
The councillors raised the issue of deployment of security guards at the parks and greenbelts. The councillors had wanted that security guards be deployed at the gardens and greenbelts in order to prevent theft of equipment. However, after the agenda for the same was not brought to the meeting the councillors expressed their resentment over the fact. A number of incidents of theft of benches, parts of fountains, etc had been reported from the greenbelts.
The councillors raised questions over the money being spent by the civic body in organising an event as part of the tourism week. The councillors stated that the money to organise the event was given without the knowledge of the councillors or the Mayor. They asked for the written order from the Administration about the expenditure to be done.
The councillors had earlier asked for a report on the installation of GPS in the vehicles of MC. While the report had been prepared no further action on the same has been undertaken.
The horticulture department, meanwhile, complained about foul smell emanating from the tertiary treated water making it difficult for them to use it in the gardens and greenbelts where pipelines had been laid.
The councillors also stated that the agenda for the mobile towers atop community centres be brought to the meeting. The F&CC had decided that the mobile towers be removed from the community centres as it was damaging the buildings.
