Councillors resent delay in completion of works
CHANDIGARH: Delay in developmental works throughout the city led to an uproar during the monthly MC house meeting on Wednesday, as all the councillor of the civic body alleged in unison that the already started works are being delayed and numbers of works cleared are yet to be started in their respective areas.
Taking strict note, MC commissioner ordered the engineering department that file process time should not be beyond one month and in one case he himself started an inquiry, in which engineering wing took four months. Taking part in the discussion, Congress councillors said that there was a dire need to review all the projects, so that works could be started as soon as possible. Congress councillor Kamlesh and nominated councillor Dr AP Sanwaria also emphasized review of the present approved projects.
During the reply, officials disclosed that the rates of the construction materials have gone up, therefore contractors were delaying the matter. Speaking over the issue, commissioner Roshan Sunkaria said he himself was monitoring the things and contractors would be penalized for not initiating work on time. Congress councillor Chandermukhi Sharma emphasized to provide complete schedule report having the exact dates of initiating works and also completion dates.
Taking part in the meeting, Union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that the transfer of works from UT administration to the municipal corporation was a welcome step and now it was up to the MC to take up the challenge. The issue of failure of auction of hygienic meat and fish market in Sector 41 was also raised in the meeting. Nominated councillor Arshad Khan said that the civic body’s plan to sell the booths at very high rates was not right.
