Ludhiana: Although Guru Nanak Stadium is a property of the Municipal Corporation, it was handed over to the Sports department by the corporation. As a result, in the recent kabaddi worldcup, most councillors who had VVIP passes to see the match could not even enter the premises. The councillors even claimed that policemen on duty misbehaved with them.
BJP councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu, in the recently-held general house meeting, said, “If such is the case, the corporation should take possession of the stadium. Such incidents have happened with us a number of times in the past as well.”
Many other councillors echoed the same thought. Off and on, the MC spends money on maintainence of the stadium and hence councillors questioned why they were not given the due respect. Commissioner A K Sinha said, “This issue was discussed in the general house meeting. So far, we have not sent the demand to the government. If councillors express their anguish in writing, it will be sent to the government for a formal approval.”
