Court refuses to stay demolition at Campa Cola
The demolition drive at the Campa Cola compound in
upmarket Worli area of the city will now take place on May 2, after the
Bombay High Court refused to stay the demolition notice issued by the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The BMC
served the notice on people in seven buildings of the compound on
Friday, asking them to vacate flats by Monday. The residents approached
the High Court, seeking a stay on the notice.
The residents are banking on a 1987 document acquired under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The document suggests that around two-thirds of the actual area to be demolished can be legalised by paying fine.
