BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday stayed the demolition of several shops in Hassan city.
Justice A.S. Pachhapure passed the order on petitions by Satyanarayana and others challenging the order of the Hassan tahsildar asking them to vacate the shops around Devikere in Hassan.
The shopkeepers said the Hassan municipality had in 1963-64 allotted the shops to them. They said a few months ago, the authorities had submitted to the Karnataka High Court that the traders would not be dispossessed of their land.
However, the tahsildar had recently issued a notice asking them to vacate or face eviction. They urged the court to stay the notice and demolition.
Justice Pacchapure, in an interim order, stayed the demolition.
