Damaged streetlights leave roads in dark
CHANDIGARH: The
electricity sub-committee of the Chandigarh municipal corporation on
Monday conducted a surprise check of streetlights installed across the
city. During inspection, many streetlights were found non functional in
V-5 -internal roads leading to resident areas. Also, 20% streetlights of
Sector 17 were found non-function.
During inspection it was
also revealed that streetlights of Sector 27 have been out of order for
over six months. The employees of electricity wing revealed that theft
of electricity equipments is the major problem in the area.
The
streetlights in Industrial Area, near CTU workshop and in Sector 30
were also found non-functional. Similar situation was visible in
transport area. MC electricity committee chairman Arun Sood said,
“During inspection we found non functional streetlights in many areas
and orders have already been given to get these in working order.”
Significantly, the electrical staff of MC is suffering due to non
availability of electrical equipment and vehicles. The committee has now
passed items for purchase to make streetlights functional.
