BJP leadership asks Vasanth Kumar to step down |
DAVANGERE: Vasanth Kumar resigned as the Mayor of Davangere on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Kumar said that he tendered his resignation as instructed by the BJP high command.
He had served as Mayor for seven months, one month more than the period allotted to him, he added.
He said that a short term of six months was not enough for a Mayor to do constructive work. However, during his tenure, he had streamlined tax collection in the city, he claimed.
Mr. Kumar said that he had also improved collection and disposable of garbage.
Garbage was being collected on a daily basis in most parts of the city, he added.
He said that road and drainage works had been taken up with the special grant of Rs. 100 crore provided by the Chief Minister.
Saplings
Mr. Kumar said that over 10,000 saplings had been planted during his tenure.
He handed over charge to Deputy Mayor Pushpa Duggesh. The new Mayor is expected to be chosen in about 20 days.
