Deadline extended for flyover, subway projects in Chennai
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation Council on Tuesday extended the deadline for completion of two flyovers, including the upcoming facility in Rangarajapuram, and two subway projects being implemented by the civic body in association with the Southern Railway.
The new deadline for completion of the Rangarajapuram flyover will be January 31, 2011.
Residents’ protest
According to Corporation officials, the delay in completion of the work was mainly on account of protests by residents of the locality, difficulties faced in taking over a part of a temple land, time taken to entrust the work front to the contractor and rain.
The railway’s component of the work is expected to be completed by October.
Contractor’s request accepted
The council has accepted the request by the contractor for extension of deadline for the flyover on Cocraine Basin Road-Kathivakkam High Road to June 30, 2011.
The project has been delayed on account of litigation, according to a resolution tabled in the council.
The deadline for completing the subway at a level crossing (LC-2) in Villivakkam is January 31, 2011.
The extension follows a request from the contractor for two more months after completion of the railways portion of the work.
This work has also been delayed because of litigation.
Over 30 per cent of the work has been completed.
New deadline
The new deadline for completion of the subway on Monegar Choultry Road is March 31, 2011.
Around 60 per cent of the work has been completed, the resolution said.
