Defeated Batra walks out of meeting
PNS | Roorkee
Agitated with his defeat in the municipal council, chairman Pradeep Batra left the hall in the middle of a meeting. Senior municipal councillor Vijendra Verma said this while speaking at a Press conference organised here.
About 10 other councillors accompanied Verma in the Press conference. Addressing the media, Verma said that Pradeep Batra had been deferring the elections for various municipal committees for quite some time. The announcement of names of councillors in these committees was kept pending due to delays on Batra’s part.
Recently, when the councillors favoured by Batra failed to secure membership in their preferred committee, he was unable to handle defeat and accused MLA Suresh Jain of attacking him. In addition to this, Batra tried to organise a gherao of the councillors not supporting him in pressurising them.
But he was unable to influence the outcome because the election procedure had been drafted by the municipal council executive officer acting on the directions of the District Magistrate. Verma alleged that when one of the councillors expressed his opposition to the chairman, the chairman’s wife, Manisha Batra, threatened him on phone which is an insult to elected public representatives. Municipal councillors present during the press conference included JP Sharma, Dhiraj Pal, Anuradha Tyagi, Satendra Singh and Sarla Devi among others.
