Delhi third city to have a medical college under its municipal corporation
After Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the National Capital has
become the third city in the country to have a medical college under its
municipal corporation. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation-owned
Hindu Rao Hospital is all set to begin admissions to its MBBS programme.
Sources
in the Corporation said that the Hindu Rao Medical College has also got
the formal go ahead from the Medical Council of India and all that is
required now is an official green signal. The medical college will be
affiliated to the Indraprastha (IP) University.
At
present, Delhi has 600 seats in various medical colleges. With the Hindu
Rao Medical College offering another 50 seats it will provide a big
boost to the aspirants.
NDMC Commissioner P.K. Gupta
said the required conditions for the go ahead of the MCI have been met.
All the infrastructure-related works like laboratories, library,
classrooms and even the recruitment of the faculty have already been
completed. “The entire process has taken about an year and we have spent
Rs.7 crore on it,’’ the officer said.
The
Corporation officials said the admissions to the new college are
expected to start from the coming session once the college gets a formal
letter from the MCI. With the beginning of the medical college, the
first big project of the NDMC would be realised. The project started
last year.
Hindu Rao Hospital already has diploma courses in nursing and anaesthesia.
