Demolish buildings without parking lot, Karwar CMC told
The parking problem in the city came up for discussion
at the meeting of Karwar City Municipal Council (CMC) on Monday even as
Anand Asnotikar, Minister for Fisheries, Science and Technology, asked
the municipal council to issue notice to hotels and lodges which do not
have provision for vehicle parking.
Raising the
issue, Sandeep Talekar, a Congress member, alleged that hotels and
lodges secure permission from the CMC by incorporating the parking lot
in their plan, but when the building was completed they used the parking
area for commercial activity. Mr. Asnotikar agreed with the member and
asked the CMC Commissioner to demolish the buildings which had no
parking lot.
When the members objected to the silt
being not removed from storm-water drains, CMC Commissioner Uday Kumar
Shetty said tender floated for the clearing of drainage had not evoked
any response . He said Rs. 12 lakh had been spent for the work until
now.
He said the Coastal Development Authority had sanctioned Rs. 1.80 crore to build a fish market.
But
since there was a growing demand from different quarters to take into
consideration the growth of Karwar city for the next 25 years before
embarking on the project, building a market which could take care of the
future requirements required about Rs. 4 crore.
The members said the sterilisation drive being carried out against stray dogs had not yielded the desired results.
