Demolition drive targets DDA flats again
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi continued its drive against illegal
constructions in residential colonies on Monday with its squad
demolishing illegally constructed portions in nine properties, including
in DDA Janata Flats in South-East Delhi.
According to the civic body, demolition action was taken
with the help of local police in Sarita Vihar, Tughlakabad Extension
and Govindpuri. This is the second time within a week that the civic
body has taken action against illegal constructions in DDA flats in
Sarita Vihar, taking the total number of flats targeted in the past week
to 15.
The civic agency said there are close to 10,000 DDA
flats in Sarita Vihar wherein a number of owners have carried out
illegal construction to create more space.
An MCD official said: “We have a policy in relation to
DDA flats and the owners who want to carry out any additional
construction or alterations are required to obtain permission from the
MCD as per guidelines. The owners of these DDA flats had carried out
unauthorised construction in violation of the policy of the MCD.”
“Those who want to carry out any form of construction
can contact our zonal offices and apply for regularisation to ensure
demolition is not carried out within their flats,” he added.
Next targets
The civic agency would continue carrying out the
demolition drive throughout this week and would be targeting other DDA
flats too including those located in Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Dwarka,
Munirka and Shalimar Bagh.
