Depot location surprises GHMC Commissioner
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would
enquire as to how the timber depot which caught fire at Musheerabad on
Monday was operating in a predominantly residential area. “We will check
the details, if it has trade licence or not, and then take appropriate
action,” GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said. He expressed surprise at
the timber depot’s functioning in a locality which was densely
residential and said there was not even space for movement of vehicles.
“There
are two apartments on either side and this depot is located in the
middle. Today morning, we had to ensure that fire did not spread.
Necessary steps to initiate action will follow now,” he said. There was
no loss of life and the situation was brought under control by
afternoon, he said, adding that 12 fire engines were involved in
fire-fighting for hours.
