Deputy Mayor election today
The election to the post of Deputy Mayor of Vellore
Corporation would be held at the Corporation Council hall here on
January 22.
The election–an indirect one – is being
held to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of V.D. Dharmalingam
of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the last week of May
2014.
The new Deputy Mayor would be elected by the 60 councillors and the Mayor of the Corporation.
Nominations
Janaki Raveendran, Commissioner of Vellore Corporation told
The Hindu
that nominations for the election would be called for at 10.30 a.m. on January 22 when the special election meeting commences.
“We
will wait for half-an-hour for the quorum, and if quorum is available,
the election would be conducted at 11 a.m.”, the Commissioner said.
