Mumbai: A directory and a time table will be soon issued to the public for any monsoon-related queries, said Municipal Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya here on Wednesday. He was speaking on the pre-monsoon measures taken by the BMC.“The BMC will also provide a time table for high tide with date, time and height of the tide,” said Kshatriya. “We have published a directory with names, contact details of all agencies and its helplines, which the citizens can use during the monsoon,” he said.
The BMC has also identified 721 dilapidated buildings in the pre-monsoon survey. Of the 721 buildings, 328 are cess buildings, 278 buildings are non-cess and 115 are BMC-owned. Those buildings which come under BMC jurisdiction will be given evacuation notices over the next two days, the BMC chief said adding that the notices to cess buildings will be sent by MHADA.
The civic body has also identified 127 spots for landslides and the residents near those areas will be asked to evacuate too, said Kshatriya.
To solve the problem of water logging, the administration has also positioned 196 dewatering pumps across 189 locations. He also urged the citizens to avoid littering plastic and thermocol waste which causes water logging.
It has also set up 29 weather stations to provide continuous data on weather to the control rooms. In cases of any disaster-like situation, the BMC will have in place 9 navy teams, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Reserve Police (SRP). The BMC will also provide public announcement systems and wireless system to ward officers in their official Scorpio vehicles for patrolling their areas in monsoon.
