Drinking water supply for Kakti: Jarkiholi

Jarkiholi, on Wednesday announced a permanent drinking water scheme for
residents of Kakti, where Rani Channamma grew up, 6 km from Belgaum city
on Pune-Bangalore NH4.
He was in Kakti to offer
floral tributes to Rani Channamma during the annual Kittur Utsav. Former
mayor of Belgaum City Corporation Siddangouda Patil, Deputy
Commissioner N. Jayaram, residents and representatives of Kannada
organisations were present.
Scheme
In
his address to the public, he said the scheme would utilise water from
Markandeya river flowing nearby. The historical fort atop a hill on the
other side of the village would be developed into a tourist attraction. A
proper road and pathways to the fort and inside the fort complex would
be provided, he said. Roads in the Kakti village would be improved
through the Kittur Development Authority.
The
Minister said the government had sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh for the
celebration of Kittur Utsav in Kakti, while the main events were being
held on the Kittur fort premises in Kittur town. Last year, the previous
government had provided Rs. 50,000.
