Drive against eviction
Municipal officials along with a revenue team removed
28 unauthorised shops in Anna bus stand at Meenakshipuram here on
Friday.
As the shops were causing hardship to
passengers, the matter was brought to the notice of Collector S.
Nagarajan who ordered their removal. The Consumer Protection Association
and Conservation of Nature Trust here had already filed cases in the
Madras High Court Bench in Madurai in this connection.
The judgment would be expected to be delivered soon, said the president of Consumer Forum S.R. Sree Ram.
‘Thookkam’ festival
Thousands
of people from different parts of the district and Kerala witnessed the
‘thookka nerchai’ of the Bhathrakali Amman Temple at Kollencode on
Friday.
A total of 1,663 children along with their
family members took part the ‘thookkam’ festival. Drawing of
‘villiuvandi’ drew the attraction of the devotees.
Special
pujas and abisekams were performed to the presiding deity. The police
made elaborate security arrangements and transport corporation officials
(both TNSTC as well as KSRTC) operated adequate buses to Kollencode.
