Efforts on to repair roads

With the south west monsoon having crossed its half way
mark and the hill station getting ready for the Autumn season, the civic
administration has begun preparations for implementing a scheme to
improve some of the roads in and around the town. Municipal Engineer, B.
Ramoorthy, said here on Thursday that as soon as the monsoon ends the
works would begin. Among the roads chosen for immediate attention at a
cost of Rs. 2.50 crore under the Tamil Nadu Urban Roads Infrastructure
Project are the Alms House Road, Race View Road, Selborne Road, Richings
Colony Road, Gori Shola Road, R.K. Puram Road, Saint Mary’s Hill Road,
and Kullishola Road. The Governnment Headquarters Hospital Road would be
improved at a cost of Rs. 13.80 lakh under the Hill Area Development
Programme. Efforts are on to repair the High Level Road and the Grant
Duff Road too. To a query Mr. Ramoorthy said that the total length of
roads maintained by the municipality was 141km.
