Encroachments at Nyay Nagar razed amid heavy protests
INDORE: After years of
illegal construction under its nose at Nyay Nagar where nearly 100
buildings came up in past few years, district administration and Indore Development Authority (IDA) woke up from its deep slumber and razed houses on Wednesday amid violent protests from residents and alleged encroachers.
Residents were up in arms against the police and officials of district administration, IDA and IMC
who had come to carry out the demolition drive. Initially, the
residents did not allow the demolition and even entered into verbal dual
with officials. Some of the women threatened to consume poison if any
demolition was carried out.
After hours of confrontation, the
buildings were finally razed with heavy police force and riot management
teams. CSP Vijay Nagar, Prashant Choubey said police personnel from
five police stations and home guards were called in to continue the
drive and control agitating crowd.
Members of Nyay Nagar Housing Society have been complaining against the illegal construction and encroachments
by land mafia. The society has around 450 members and over the years
nearly 60 houses have been constructed on the encroached land. In fact,
construction of 38 houses started few weeks ago. Land of society is
under IDA’s scheme no. 171 but they were unable to check the illegal
construction all these years.
