After a long wait, state-of-the-art new headquarters of world’s second largest civic body Municipal Corporation of Delhi at Jawaharlal Nehru Marg will welcome its first occupant on November 11.
Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre, the tallest structure in the Capital constructed at whopping cost of Rs 650 crore, has been lying vacant in the absence of facility manage service in place even after seven months of its inauguration. As the agency failed to appoint a suitable company to look after the maintenance of equipment-systems installed and housekeeping services of the building, deadline for shifting of its various departments to the newly-constructed building was extended on several occasions.
As per the shifting plan prepared by the body, shifting will take place in four phases starting from November 11 and it will be completed by December 8. Additional Deputy Commissioner (headquarters) will be first to move in the 28-storeyed building along with others. Earlier, it was being speculated the Engineering Department will occupy its space in the civic centre first. Municipal Commissioner and Additional Commissioners will shift on December four and five in the last phase.
However, first floor, 27th and 28th floor will remain unoccupied for the time being as nothing has been finalized yet. 26th floor will house Vigilance department of the body. Though, entire executive wing will move in the civic centre, deliberative wing will have to wait more.
Only, Municipal Secretary will be sitting in Block A meant for elected members of the body from next month. The shifting of leaders will take place in next year sometime.
