Flyover projects aim for JNNURM funds

Kochi: The
corporation will submit detailed reports of the proposed flyover
projects at Kundannoor, Vyttila and Palarivattom to the Union Government
for getting additional funds under JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National
Urban Renewal Mission).
As per the revised JNNURM guidelines,
additional funds would be provided to those projects, which would be
submitted before July end with the DPR. The only stipulation is that the
state government and civic body should bear the cost for land
acquisition.
A resolution passed by the corporation council
meeting here on Friday recommended that the proposal for three flyovers
worth Rs 238 crore should be submitted to the Central Government to get
the benefit of additional funds under JNNURM.
“The design and DPR
for three flyovers have already been finalised by the National Highway
Authority of India. If the proposals are submitted in time, the Union
Government will provide the project cost, which is 50 per cent of the
total expense.
The council will ask the state government to bear
the cost of land acquisition, as the corporation is not in a position to
provide the amount”, said mayor Tony Chammany at the meeting. As per
the DPR, the Vyttila flyover will cost Rs 93 cr, while the estimated
expense for Kundannoor and Palarivattom has been put at Rs 78 cr and
Rs 67 cr respectively. The civic body is also planning to include in
JNNURM, the new Kalamassery flyover project, of which the design and DPR
are yet to be prepared.
