Focus on cleanliness: Minister
Staff Reporter
Guntur: Minister for Housing Kanna Lakshminarayana has ordered the
officials of Guntur Municipal Corporation and municipalities to focus on
cleanliness in habitations in view of the heavy rain lashing the
district for the last 48 hours.
Addressing a review meeting with officials of the Guntur Municipal
Corporation (GMC) and municipalities at the R&B guest house here on
Wednesday, Mr. Lakshminarayana instructed the civic officials to
urgently take up road and canal works in Guntur west constituency and to
drain off stagnant water in the low-lying areas.
Due emphasis ought to be laid on garbage disposal to prevent spread
of seasonal diseases. The situation in Konda Venkatappayya Colony was
pathetic and similar conditions prevailed elsewhere, necessitating
remedial action at the earliest.
Mr. Lakshminarayana said that houses would be built for eligible poor under the Rajiv Awas Yojna.
Steps would be taken to expedite the construction of houses under the
Indiramma scheme. Banks should extend bridge loans as per guidelines,
he added.
Later, the Minister distributed Rs. 30,000 each in the form of cheques to 12 beneficiaries of the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme.
Microfinance
On Microfinance Institutions (MFI), Mr. Lakshminarayana said there
were 2.38 lakh persons who borrowed from MFI in the district and 76,000
in GMC limits.
Twenty complaints were received on alleged harassment by MFI and punitive action was being taken.
