For HDMC, 20 years are not enough to develop a park
said about protecting sites reserved for gardens in Hubli-Dharwad and
preventing them from turning into dumpyards, at every general body
meeting.
But the HDMC
has woken up to the reality as it continues to ignore sites reserved
for the garden. The site which was reserved for garden in Kalidas Nagar is one such glaring example.
Due to the negligence of the HDMC, the vast land is today being used for dumping waste and construction materials. The only park in Kalidas Nagar has not been developed at all.
Kalidas Nagar came to existence about 20 years back. Since then a site
has been earmarked for developing a site. Kalidas Nagar is surrounded by
well-known areas and is also nearest to Gokul Road (Airport Road) and Hubli-Dharwad Main Road.
Speaking to TOI, Kavita Banna, who owns a shop in the area, said the
site has remained a dumping ground for many years now. During summer,
the dust rising from the dumped construction material is a nuisance for
houses nearby.
The park is located in the heart of Kalidas
Nagar and is surrounded by houses, apartments paying guest houses,
schools, temples. But even after the area was developed, the park has
remained as is. Kalidas Nagar has about 210 plots and more than 110
building have already been constructed, while the remaining is under
construction.
A J Karmakar, businessman, said that some
residents dump building waste materials over night and this has spoiled
the beauty of the area.
HDMC zonal commissioner P D
Galemmanavar said: “I am not aware of building waste materials dumped at
Kalidas Nagar Park. I will look into it after the completion of
election works and take measures to get the park cleaned.”
The
area was developed by private players and the park was not developed
during handover time, and we have planned to take developmental works of
the park in next list of park development, he added.
