Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation passed a proposal that will allow five-star hotels to build additional floors for parking without having to pay for the additional FSI.
The civic improvements committee on Thursday okayed a proposal allowing five-star hotels on the city’s sea front within the radius of 500 metres from the sea coast to be granted free FSI to construct additional floors or podium space for parking.
Shiv Sena corporator, Yashodhar Phanse, chairman of the improvements committee, said that the decision was taken to decongest the road and not to favour any builder or hotelier. “Normally we see on street parking near five-star hotels that result in traffic congestion. This move will induce hotels to build parking lots within the building premise so that streets can be decongested,” said Phanse.
The civic body will now have to bring about necessary amendments in its Development Control Regulations (DCR) rules and the same will have to be approved by the state government.
In addition, the improvements committee also ruled that other business related to the hotel industry cannot occupy more than 50 per cent of the total area of the hotel. Coffee shops, restaurants, artifacts shops and other such business related to the hotel industry would be allowed, while any other business not related to hotels will not be allowed to come up within the hotel premise.
