Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner M
Lakshminarayana directed officials to make preparations to face the
problems caused by monsoon rains.
A BBMP press release issued here
on Monday stated that the Commissioner has instructed zonal
commissioners and chief engineers to prepare a list of volunteers to
reach out to the people who face the wrath of the rains.
He
further directed officials to undertake desilation of drains on a
priority basis and clear garbage which piles up on roadsides and clog
drains leading to flooding of roads and low-lying areas.
The
release also stated that Lakshminarayana directed zonal commissioners to
write to the BMTC, BWSSB, BESCOM, BDA and other government agencies to
take precautionary measures to prevent mishaps in their jurisdiction.
‘Need to Constitute New Committee’
The
Commissioner said the existing Bangalore City Disaster Management
Committee (BCDMC) is not functional and the Chief Minister has directed
the BBMP to constitute a new BCDMC which can address the city’s rain
issues.
In this regard, he wrote to the Principal Secretary of
Urban Development Department to constitute a new committee and urged him
to appoint the District In-charge Minister as the chairman of the
committee.
Further, the Commissioner stated that he has directed
zonal commissioners to procure additional Prahari vehicles to strengthen
control rooms.
He said there is a need to publicise BBMP control
room numbers, for which he asked officials to prepare a list of numbers
to be given to Justdial, police, BWSSB, BESCOM and BDA. He also
instructed officials to clean empty sites and issue notices to their
owners and collect cleaning charges from them.
He added that if officials concerned need technical or financial aid, they can approach him.
