Get ready to be counted in national census from May 1

Pune: Come May 1 and residents of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the surrounding rural areas will begin to participate in the National Housing Census and National Population Registry drive.
Residents of the city will have to fill up two questionnaires with nearly 50 questions when the enumerators will conduct the house-to-house survey. The drive will continue till June 15.
Resident deputy collector Anil Pawar said the enumerators will ask for data like names of family members, age, income, education, standard of living and property details. A photograph of every family member above the age of 15 and their fingerprints will also be collected. “We have finished the training and there will be nearly 18,000 people who have been appointed as enumerators in the district for the census,” said Pawar.
This will be the seventh population census to be undertaken and the district, which recorded a population of 72.67 lakh in 2001, is expected to record a 25 per cent increase in the latest census.
The enumerators will handle around 600 to 750 people each and, besides this, there will be 2,736 supervisors and 352 master trainers. The census will be conducted in all 14 talukas, 11 municipal councils, three cantonment boards and in the Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits. An officer in-charge has been appointed for each civic body and a cell has been set up at every civic body to help people.
The entire population, including foreigners and floating population like students, hostellers and paying guests will also be covered in the drive and if a person registers his/her information at another place, one of the entries will be deleted.
