GHMC establishes six emergency control rooms

GETTING READY:Municipal workers cleaning drains to ensure free flow of water to meet any eventuality due to cyclone ‘Laila’, in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
HYDERABAD: Six emergency control rooms, one each for the five zones and another in the GHMC head office are to function round-the-clock to tackle any situation emerging out of the heavy rain expected in the capital for the next couple of days due to Cyclone ‘Laila’.
An Emergency Operations Centre (23222018 & 9704601866) has been opened at the head office to co-ordinate with officers handling emergencies.
At a meeting convened by Commissioner Sameer Sharma on Wednesday, it was decided that all the necessary material required to deal with emergencies would be procured and loaded into eight trucks. Mr. Sharma directed one tipper to each zone with 10 labourers and tree cutting equipment, five teams are ready to tackle hoardings and all flexi clothes have been ordered to be removed. Eleven bucket ladders too have been requisitioned. T
hree alert codes too have been issued – Code one alarm for alerting officers, code two for all zonal commissioners and deputy commissioners to start mobilising men and material and code three for all section heads to be at the control rooms for effective co-ordination.
