GHMC for bringing more trades into licence fee net

HYDERABAD: The GHMC which has prepared a draft budget with an outlay
of Rs.3, 226.22 crore for the next financial year of 2011-2012 has
proposed to bring more than 40 new businesses under the trade licence
fee net.
Talking to presspersons on Monday, Mayor B. Kartika Reddy said that
new trades like hostels, coffee shops, marble shops, cell phone shops,
private playgrounds/pools and so on are to be brought under the tax net.
Other measures to garner more revenue to the municipal corporation are
to enhance permit fee for film/TV shooting, collect penal fees from
polluters to develop ring drains around lakes.
She said that garbage collection fee from commercial properties
generating more municipal waste is also proposed to be hiked. The
government will also be approached to share the revenues accrued from
Value Added Tax (VAT).
Next year’s budget proposals discussed at the special standing
committee meeting showed an increase of 22.30 per cent when compared to
the budget outlay of the current year (2010-2011) of Rs. 2,637.77 crore.
Total revenue income has been projected to be Rs. 1,631.62 crore and
revenue put at Rs.1, 239.46 crore with a surplus of Rs. 392.16 crore.
The highlight of the draft budget is not only Rs.171.40 crore allotted
for poverty alleviation but separate funds allotted for SCs (Rs.63.53
cr), STs (Rs.24.31 cr), women (Rs.19.61 cr) and physically-challenged
(Rs. 11.77 crore)
The Mayor said the Hari Hara Kala Bhavan in Secunderabad will be
renovated and a library is being planned in each of the 150 divisions.
Referring to illegal hoardings and misuse of permissions given, she said
all agencies owning lit hoardings will have to submit their respective
metre readings.
