GHMC gets HC notice on cooption of 2 Muslim members
Feb. 11: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on a petition filed against the appointment of two cooption members from the Muslim community for the GHMC.
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice T. Meena Kumari and Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a petition filed by one Mr Marshal Savio Francis and four others seeking a direction to declare the GHMC act as illegal.
The petitioner contended that the action of the GHMC was against Section 5 and all other provisions of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955, read with rule 2(1) (v) and rule 7 of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Rules for co-option of members.
While issuing the notices the court asked the GHMC and other official respondents to file their reply within two weeks.
Proceedings against Daggubati stayed
Justice P. Swaroop Reddy of the High Court on Thursday stayed all further criminal proceedings against the former minister and Congress MLA, Mr Daggubati Venkateswara Rao.
The judge was dealing with a petition filed by one Mr Rao seeking a direction to quash the proceedings registered against him by the Parchuru police of Prakasam district on April 2, 2009 while he was going to file his nomination.
He told the court that the police charged him for violation of Election Code and also under Section 188, 283 of the IPC.
