GHMC officials accused of slackness
GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma admitted desilting work done was poor. Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy announced during the meeting that officers found misleading the House will be dealt with strictly.
Sharma informed the Council that wherever desilting works were not completed, no money would be released to contractors. “We would release money only the work done was verified,” he said.
At one point, the commissioner called all executive engineers into the house to give their version.
But their entry was strongly objected by all corporators. The mayor directed the engineers to leave the house as only senior officers should be present during the meeting.
The Council had appointed a five-member committee of corporators from various parties to prepare a report on desilting works.
Reportedly, the team has found that not even 40 per cent of desilting works had been completed. The committee inspected about 70 wards and found desilting works were in poor shape.
The Congress and MIM corporators wanted the mayor to pass a resolution to take stringent action against the chief engineer.
TDP floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy said proper coordination was needed between the mayor and commissioner to see developmental works were implemented properly.
