GHMC panel on welfare schemes
Mayor B. Kartika Reddy has announced the formation of a four-member
committee headed by the Special Commissioner to prepare guidelines for
taking up welfare activities including poverty alleviation programmes.
Additional Commissioner (IT) and Additional Commissioner
(Elections) are the other members while Additional Commissioner (UCD)
is the Convenor.
The committee would look into convergence with schemes
of other departments with special focus on women households. The
guidelines prepared are to be submitted to the GHMC commissioner before
Feb.10th, an official spokesperson said. The panel came into being
following a request by the Mayor to the Commissioner on the issue. She
pointed out that the municipal corporation while concentrating on civic
infrastructure was lagging behind in welfare activities of the urban
poor.
The Standing Committee and other corporators were
insisting on implementing such welfare activities with the cooperation
of departments like Women and Child Welfare, Disabled Welfare, Rural
Development, etc.
The matter was also discussed in the Standing Committee
meeting where it was decided to formulate guidelines and also identify
new schemes for the poor, she added.
