Standing Committee members demand fresh proposals to be submitted in next meet
HYDERABAD: The GHMC’s weekly Standing Committee meeting presided over by Mayor B. Kartika Reddy for the umpteenth time decided to reject the agenda without discussing it.
Most of the proposals pertained to development of roads in different circles and as soon as the meeting commenced, committee members charged officials with ignoring their requests and putting up works proposals without taking the consent of the area corporators concerned.
They demanded fresh proposals to be submitted during the next meeting. As the assembled senior officials, including Additional Commissioners, watched, the next couple of hours were spent seeking favours among other things like clearing corporators’ telephone bills without bills being submitted.
Feel ‘slighted’
Earlier, Commissioner Sameer Sharma had cleared a proposal to pay mobile bills of up to Rs.2, 000 but bills had to be submitted. He had also assured that bills of less than the sanctioned limit would be adjusted in the next month’s bills. But, members felt it was an insult asking them to submit bills.
Their other wishes include fax machines along with the laptops and printers recently given free as also CDs.
It was not for the first time that the panel had kept aside the agenda and chose to discuss issues like emoluments, rooms’ allotment, bill payment or launching tirades against senior officials.
Things reached such a stage that senior officials opted to take leave than attend a meeting last month.
No wonder, on Wednesday, the Mayor rushed out for a meeting with the Chief Minister ignoring the customary press conference after the meeting.
