Hyderabad, May 19: The Hyderabad traffic police has blocked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s move to raise revenues through auction of parking lots on various main roads in the city. The traffic cops have cited traffic congestion and security as the reasons for rejecting 33 parking lots.

Officials of the Estate Wing in the GHMC had identified 197 parking lots. Of these 152 were in the Hyderabad traffic police limits while another 45 were in the Cyberabad Co-mmissionerate limits. Of the 152 in the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits 33 parking lots were rejected. The corporation hoped to raise revenue worth Rs 1.5 crore per month by giving the parking lots on contract.

The additional commissioner of police (traffic) Mr C.V. Anand said that though Hyderabad needs more parking space setting up of parking lots on the “heavy traffic” corridors would only narrow down the carriage way.
