GHMC plans to put up fencing around lakes
To prevent encroachments
In its attempt to protect lakes from getting encroached,
the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to
construct chain link fencing around 13 lakes in various parts of the
capital.
In the last meeting of the Standing
Committee here on Monday, the GHMC authorities have decided to allot
over Rs.4.3 crore for fencing works around the lakes.
Briefing
press persons here on Monday on the decisions taken in the standing
committee meeting, Mayor Majid Hussain said that chain link fencing
works would be taken up without any delay.
“This decision reflects commitment of GHMC towards protecting water bodies,” he said.
Lakes
The
lakes chosen for fencing, includes Pedda Cheruvu at Gangaram in
Serlingampally, Khaidamma Kunta at Hafeezpet, Erla Cheruvu at
Madeenaguda, Nallagandla lake at Nallagandla, Sunnam Cheruvu under
Kukatpally circle, Ranganayaka Cheruvu, Yellamma Cheruvu and Mundlakatva
under Kukatpally circle, Chakali Cheruvu in Serlingampally, Kamuni
Cheruvu in Kukatpally and Malkam Cheruvu at Raidurga under Kukatpally
circle.
The Mayor also came down heavily on private contractors, who are delaying various municipal works in the capital.
“We
will crack the whip on such contractors, who are delaying the
completion of civic works. We will not hesitate to blacklist them. In
the meeting, it was decided to ask the Zonal Commissioners to furnish
details of all such contractors, who are delaying the works,” Mayor
Majid Hussain said.
Tightens bidding process
As
part of the process to weed away ‘unqualified’ contractors, GHMC will
take a slew of measures to tighten up the bidding process.
“We
will seriously ascertain whether the bidding contractor is financially
stable or not. We have sent a proposal to the government to issue
Contractor Identification Number to individual contractors. We hope that
these measures will make contractors finish projects on time,” Mayor
explained.
