GHMC rapped for going soft on lease holders
Hyderabad, June 15: The corporators from the Congress, Telugu Desam and the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday accused the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials of failing to revise the rental and lease agreement amounts of its numerous shops and properties.
Raising the issue during the general body meeting of the corporation, the corporators said while the GHMC officials go to the extent of confiscating the movable properties of citizens failing to pay taxes, they do not take any action against lease holders who have sub-leased GHMC properties to others. This, the corporators pointed out, is in violation of the norms.
The corporators also said that several files pertaining to lands owned by the GHMC have gone missing.
The GHMC officials, meanwhile, admitted to the lapses and said a process has been set in motion to revise rents and leases of GHMC estate properties.
As many as 128 files pertaining to 11,734 sq yards in the city, that is owned by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, are missing from the offices of the civic body, the GHMC additional commissioner, Mr K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, admitted and added they were seeking the help of retired town planning officials and also revenue authorities to identify and get back all such lands, the files of which have gone missing.
“Every effort will be made to ensure that not an inch of GHMC property is lost,” he told the corporators at the meeting.
